SPONSORED BY 3M: Five Common Reasons Manufacturers are Bonding with Industrial Tapes
Manufacturers are always looking for ways to keep ahead of the competition. And with advancements in bonding technologies, they’ve been able to explore new ways in doing just that. Industrial-grade, double-sided acrylic foam tapes such as 3M™ VHB™ Tapes are increasingly being used in place of more traditional mechanical fasteners such as screws, rivets, bolts, and welds—in order to permanently bond components together. While dynamic loading can cause screws and rivets to loosen or fail over time, 3M VHB Tapes are a proven, high-strength alternative to these mechanical fasteners. Based on 35+ years of experience in the development, advancement, and use of 3M VHB Tapes, here are the five main reasons manufacturing companies are choosing to “stick” with tape.

Toyota's Strategy: Turn Cow Manure Into Hydrogen as Part of Fuel Cell Push
Toyota's Strategy: Turn Cow Manure Into Hydrogen as Part of Fuel Cell Push
Toyota Motor Corp. is building a refinery to make large quantities of hydrogen from cow manure as part of a push for more fuel cell vehicles, writes Alan Ohnsman of Forbes. Toyota said at the Los Angeles Auto Show it's "building a renewable hydrogen generation station at the Port of Long Beach that will produce 1.2 tons of the fuel per day and 2.35 megawatts of electricity – extracted from methane that’s a byproduct of dairy cattle poop," according to Forbes. As things stand now, fuel cells are a miniscule part of the US clean energy market and there are few hydrogen refueling stations.Hydrogen made at the port will be used to fuel up Toyota Mirais that arrive from Japan for sale in the US.

Defense Secretary Says He Won't Accept Flawed Boeing Tankers
US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis warned Pentagon weapons buyers that he won’t let the Air Force accept new refueling tankers from Boeing Co. "if they’re flawed or don’t meet all contract obligations," Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the issue. Mattis wrote a memo to his staff in November, noting that he's unwilling to accept deficient aircraft in the KC-46 tanker program. The KC-46 has been beset by various problems and delays over 16 years. The KC-46 is intended to replace the aging KC-135 tanker.
