Durable Goods Orders Fall in October on Aircraft Activity
Durable Goods Orders Fall in October on Aircraft Activity
Durable goods orders fell in October because of a plunge in commercial and defense aircraft orders.Orders fell 1.2% to $236 billion, the US Commerce Department said in a recent report. That was down from an adjusted $238.8 billion in September. The decline snapped a two-month streak of gains in durable goods orders.
Find Your Mistakes Faster by Rethinking Your Assembly Process
Find Your Mistakes Faster by Rethinking Your Assembly Process
There are so many questions to consider when developing an assembly process. How should it be assembled? What tools are needed? What determines a good part and how will it be tested? What if the last question asked becomes one of the first? Thus, putting quality testing as an integral part of your assembly process instead of a separate entity. We will look at three common applications and discuss how you can start by asking the testing question when planning your assembly process, resulting in a better process and a better assembly, saving you time and money.

Journey of the Paley-James Project; Sculptures Auctioned to Support Metalworking Careers
Two steel masterpieces created by world-renowned artist Albert Paley and West Coast Choppers founder Jesse James were revealed at FABTECH 2017, Chicago. The sculptures are the result of a collaboration, known as the Paley-James Project. Paley and James  each start one sculpture, switched halfway, and then finish the other’s piece. The entire journey of the Paley-James Project and the sculptures’ creation has been captured on film by Rochester, New York-based WXXI. The PBS station is turning the footage into a documentary of the project, which will air in early 2018.

[eBook] Making the Unmakeable
[eBook] Making the Unmakeable
The convergence of generative design, additive manufacturing, and metal casting has the possibility to rewrite the rules of lightweighting in dozens of applications in aerospace, automotive, medical devices and other industries. Generative design eliminates excess material in unexpected ways. Casting lets manufacturers use proven production techniques to manufacture higher volumes of parts.

Additive manufacturing is the bridge between these two worlds, helping foundries cut costs in unexpected ways and produce high-performance parts out of a wide variety of materials.
