Wisconsin Ponies Up $3B in Tax Breaks for Massive Foxconn Plan
Foxconn said it will build a plant in Wisconsin that "will stretch 20 million square feet, the size of 11 football fields" and provide as many as 13,000 jobs, according to The Washington Post. To secure the investment, Wisconsin plans to provide up to $3 billion in tax breaks, or $230,700 per worker. "As long as Foxconn keeps hiring U.S. workers at the new flat-screen manufacturing facility, Wisconsin would cut the company $200 million to $250 million a year for up to 15 years," according to the Post.

    The U.S. offices of the Italian Trade Agency announced its "Call for Papers" for the 2017 Italian Technology Awards (ITA). The ITA is sponsored by the Italian Trade Agency, via its Chicago and Houston Offices, along with SME and its Italian machinery manufacturers' associations UCIMU, GIMAV and UCIMA.

    The Italian Technology Award Program is comprised of three competitions asking upper-level students attending premier U.S. universities to submit papers on the relative innovation taking place in mechanical engineering-related industries and the issues they face. Award winners selected as having the best submissions, will be awarded a one-week trip to Italy with activities scheduled Nov. 5-11, 2017. Deadline for faculty and students to submit entries to SME is August 29th, 2017.
