Deere to Acquire German Construction Company for $5.2 Billion
Deere "is betting that more dollars will flock toward improving roads and highways," writes Lauren Gensler of Forbes. The maker of tractors, combines and other equipment agreed to pay $5.2 billion to buy Wirtgen Group, a German road construction company. Deere is paying cash, according to Forbes. Deere will become more of an international company and get "a bigger foothold in the construction industry," Gensler writes.

General Motors Co. will cut one of the two shifts at its Warren, MI, transmission plant, according to The Detroit News. GM didn't specify the number of jobs affected.
