Airless 3D Printed Tires May Be Answer for Autonomous Cars
Michelin has introduced a prototype airless 3D printed tire that the French company says may "be the ideal ride for self-driving cars," according to The Verge website (via CNBC). One problem: Michelin "just needs to figure out how to actually manufacture them first." Michelin calls the prototype tire Vision. The Vision is "printed from bio-sourced and biodegradable materials, including natural rubber, bamboo, paper, tin cans, wood, electronic and plastic waste, hay, tire chips, used metals, cloth, cardboard, molasses, and orange zest," according to The Verge.

Boeing, Bombardier Conflict May Ignite US-Canada Trade War
The US Commerce Department has placed a 220% percent tariff on Bombardier C Series aircraft imported into the US. Boeing had accused Bombardier of benefiting from Canadian government subisides after Delta Air Lines placed an order for the Bombardier aircraft. But the Commerce Department ruling was far higher than Boeing sought, writes CNBC's Phil LeBeau. The conflict could spur "a costly trade war" between the US and Canada, LeBeau writes.

17-4PH: New Stainless Steel Material for Medical Surgical Instrument Production using Additive Manufacturing
17-4PH: New Stainless Steel Material for Medical Surgical Instrument Production using Additive Manufacturing
Surgical instruments are a largely untapped potential for Additive Manufacturing (AM) in the medical device business. While prototyping of medical instruments have been in the engineer's toolbox for years, production using Additive Manufacturing has not become widespread despite fitting nicely into the three AM paradigms: customizable for a surgeon's technique or population, use of complex structures to decrease weight and reduce shipping costs, and redesign to reduce part numbers in assemblies. One hurdle is lack of one of the most commonly used stainless steel materials in surgical instrument production.
