A Simple Solution for CNC-Controlled Processing Machines
A Simple Solution for CNC-Controlled Processing Machines
Alpha Laser, based in Puchheim, near Munich, Germany, specializes in laser-based processing technology, and Schneider Electric, headquartered in Andover, MA., is Alpha Laser’s automation partner for its semiautomatic and fully automatic machines, including a CNC-controlled universal machine for manufacturing sensors. To be able to convert design data into automated processing sequences, Alpha Laser’s machines have controllers that understand G-Code, also known as NC-Code. Equipping machines with NC-capable controllers initially raised some issues at Alpha Laser.
How to Speed up ROI with multisensor technology
How to Speed up ROI with multisensor technology
CMMs are ideal for 3D inspection. They check the shape and size of parts using contact measurement. But for a variety of applications, many shops are looking to add the capabilities of a vision machine, typically to handle 2D applications. But multi-sensor machines with 2D optical and 3D touch capabilities are increasingly the preferred choice for adding vision capability.

Huawei Urging Suppliers to Use Cloud Technology to Match Its New Quality Standards
Huawei Technologies’ He Fred spoke about manufacturing digitization at “Manufacturing in the Age of Experience,” in Shanghai. He noted that digitizing manufacturing can be summed up as “real time, on demand, all online, DIY and social,” or ROADS. Huawei worked with Dassault Systèmes, the French software firm that hosted the conference, to establish “a fully digitized plant” that connects IT, design, and manufacturing operations.
New Generation of Dial Test Indicators
New Generation of Dial Test Indicators
Mitutoyo America’s latest dial test indicators have increased durability, sensitivity and readability. Stylus length is marked on the dial face, and longer styli allow easier access for probing of difficult-to-reach features. A glare-free flat crystal face allows for easy reading of graduations. Multiple layers of hard, smudge-resistant coatings on the crystal prevent scratches and contamination. Choose from a variety of dial positions: horizontal, horizontal with a 20-degree tilted face, vertical and parallel.

Laser Peening Surface Enhancement to Prevent Metal Cracking and Failure
Laser Peening Surface Enhancement to Prevent Metal Cracking and Failure
Laser peening is a powerful metal improvement solution using high-energy laser pulses to enhance metal fatigue strength and damage tolerance. Laser peening produces material benefits up to 20X deeper than shot peening, and has applications across the aerospace, automotive, power generation, tooling, medical, and defense manufacturing industries.

This webinar will cover:
  • An overview of Laser Shock Peening: how it works, the material benefits and industry applications.
  • Advances in laser peening equipment and technology that have increased throughput and process control for high-volume production processing.
  • The next generation of laser peening applications, highlighted by advanced development at the ZAL TechCenter in Hamburg

Advancing the Use of 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing for Medical Applications
Advancing the Use of 3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing for Medical Applications
Medical applications have been a leader in implementing additive manufacturing/3D printing (AM/3DP) for more than prototyping and product development including anatomical models, hearing aid cases matched to a patient’s ear canal, patient-matched surgical cutting guides, and as a production process to more effectively create critical porous surface structures needed for in-bone growth of orthopedic implants. In the last few years, patient-matched implants like the tracheal splint to treat TBM (tracheobronchomalacia) have demonstrated the opportunity for AM/3DP produced devices to treat rare diseases.

Despite all the success, growth has been slow. This webinar will discuss the opportunities and challenges to advance the use of AM/3DP in medicine including the crossover between engineering and biology, and explain the need for the industry to create tools such as job descriptions, to help hospitals and device manufacturers recruit and retain the next generation of biomedical experts.
