On Eve of Detroit Auto Show, FCA Announces $1B Investment
On Thursday, Jan. 11, the eve of the North America International Auto Show, FCA US LLC, which includes the former Chrysler Corp., made a huge splash by announcing a $1 billion Michigan plant investment and moving production of heavy-duty RAM trucks from Saltillo, Mexico, to Warren, MI., in 2020. That’s where the $1 billion plant investment comes in, billed as a modernization of the Michigan facility.

Toyota, Pizza Hut Partner to Test Driverless Pizza Delivery Concept Vehicle "e-Palette”
Toyota Motor Corp. unveiled a concept vehicle called the "e-Palette” at the CES trade show in Las Vegas. Businesses including Pizza Hut, Uber Technologies, and Amazon.com are partners in the project and testing will begin in the early 2020s. November U.S. cutting tool consumption totaled $185.00 million according to the U.S. Cutting Tool Institute and AMT–The Association For Manufacturing Technology. More layoffs of Manufacturing Workers at Carrier Corp. Factory Trump Made Deal to Keep Open
This month Carrier Corp. laid off 215 employees at its Indianapolis factory that President Donald Trump toured in 2016, making a deal to save jobs and prevent the facility’s closure. Manufacturing workers laid off say they feel let down. Carrier also laid off 338 manufacturing workers in July 2017. Despite the layoffs, the facility is open and 1,100 employees (730 manufacturing jobs and about 300 engineering and admin positions) remain at the location.
