Manufacturing Adds 16,000 Jobs in July
US manufacturing added 16,000 jobs last month, with makers of durable goods doing the heavy lifting, adding 13,000 jobs while makers of non-durable goods boosted employment by 3000, according to a breakdown by industry issued last week by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Notable job gainers included fabricated metal products (up 5000 jobs), transportation equipment (3800) and machinery (2100).

The Italian Technology Award Program is comprised of three competitions asking upper-level students attending premier U.S. universities to submit papers on the relative innovation taking place in mechanical engineering-related industries and the issues they face. Award winners selected as having the best submissions, will be awarded a one-week trip to Italy with activities scheduled Nov. 5-11, 2017. Deadline for faculty and students to submit entries to SME is August 29th, 2017.
